About
Neurology Consults is a boutique specialist practice founded by Dr Sarah Thomas at John Flynn Hospital on the Gold Coast. We care for adults with neurological symptoms and conditions, with particular expertise in cognitive neurology and stroke, alongside general neurology.
We know that neurological conditions can affect every part of daily life, for patients and those close to them. We take time to listen, understand each person’s concerns and explain our findings clearly. Together, we develop a practical care plan that reflects what matters most to them.
Sometimes the condition evolves and needs change over time. We aim to provide steady, ongoing care, working closely with families, GPs and other health professionals. Prevention and attention to optimising brain health are also part of how we care for our patients.
Dr. Sarah T Thomas
Neurologist
Dr Sarah Thomas (MBBS, MMed (Clin Epi), FRACP) is a neurologist with subspecialty expertise in stroke and cognitive neurology. She trained in Queensland before completing advanced fellowships at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Box Hill Hospital and The Alfred. Her experience spans the continuum of stroke care, cognitive assessment, neurodegenerative disease (dementias) and emerging treatments in both fields.
Dr Thomas has contributed to national and international clinical trials and was awarded an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship and an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship for her research into advanced brain imaging and stroke treatment. She brings this research experience to her clinical care, combining current evidence with careful assessment and clear, practical advice.
Alongside her Gold Coast practice, Dr Thomas is a Staff Specialist with the Queensland Telestroke Service, providing urgent stroke care to regional and remote hospitals.
Ms. Jessica Roetger
Medical administration
With almost a decade of experience in medical administration, Jessica is passionate about providing a warm, professional and personalised experience for every patient. She brings a calm and compassionate approach to her work, with a genuine understanding of the importance of making patients feel comfortable, heard and well cared for.
After taking two years away from healthcare to focus on motherhood, she is delighted to return to the profession and be part of a practice that values thoughtful, personalised patient care.
Based in the Northern Rivers, she enjoys life with her husband and son and feels fortunate to be part of such a close-knit community.

We require a referral from your general practitioner or specialist. Once received, we will contact you to make an appointment.
After Hours
Outside of business hours, leave us a detailed message, and we will endeavour to get back to you within 5-7 business days.
Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on the referral, you and your next of kin may be asked to complete additional forms to get the most out of your clinic visit. They can take up to an hour to complete.
Please indicate whether you can complete these forms at home prior to your clinic visit. If this is not possible, you may need to visit the clinic an hour before your allotted time.
You can expect:
Cognitive complaints can take time to assess. The first visit can be 75-90 minutes long.
That we interview your loved ones separately to gather the best information.
1-3 clinic visits in fairly quick succession depending on the complexity.
That we recommend completion of tests which may include neuropsychological evaluation, MRIs and FDG-PET / amyloid scans.
